  • Natíve Green Cane Project first sugar producer certified by Regenerative Organic Alliance

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  – Global Organics is proud to recognize its longtime partner, Natíve, for becoming the first Regenerative Organic Certified™ (ROC) sugar producer. Over the last 35 years, Natíve’s Green Cane Project has reinvented cane sugar growing and processing. By focusing on soil health and biodiversity, integrating sustainability at all levels of their operation and ensuring social fairness to farm workers, Natíve’s Green Cane Project has been long recognized as the model for sustainability.

Regenerative Organic Certification was created to leverage and bring together existing high-bar certifications for environmental protection, animal welfare and fair trade. USDA Certified Organic, an already-rigorous standard, is the baseline requirement. Regenerative Organic agriculture increases soil organic matter and sequesters carbon, ensures ethical treatment of animals, and provides fair conditions for farmers and workers. This new certification resonated strongly with Natíve because it encompassed so many of the practices they have innovated over the years.

“My aim, since I began this work, has been to achieve agricultural self-sufficiency, a way to preserve the natural resources we need now — water, soil fertility, biodiversity and the atmosphere,” says Leontino Balbo Jr., executive vice president at Natíve.

“Leontino and the Natíve team have shown that regenerative organic agriculture can succeed at scale, increase yields and improve resiliency — proving it is excellent for business too,” says Dave Alexander, president of Global Organics.

  • Minimal ingredients offer clean label alongside delicious “flavor bomb” profile

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts Consumers’ love affair with peanut butter has been going strong for decades — but as they are increasingly on the lookout for cleaner labels, could a breakup be in the future for super flavorful peanut butter inclusions? Not if manufacturers replace the usual additives found in peanut butter chips (read: partially hydrogenated oil, corn syrup solids, dextrose and the like) with Organic Peanut Butter Chips from Global Organics Ltd., a leading supplier of sustainable, certified organic and fair trade ingredients.

This dynamic inclusion delivers an extra burst of peanut flavor, despite being made up of only four simple, organic ingredients — organic peanut flour, coconut or cane sugar, cocoa butter and salt. The result is a clean-label addition that enhances the luxurious mouthfeel and unmistakable taste of peanut butter in every bite. In short, these chips heighten the flavor sensation of any product they’re added to, meaning peanut butter becomes more peanut-buttery, chocolate — and everything — more flavorful, and all without harmful additives, says Cathy Fichtner, Cocoa + Chocolate Category Manager at Global Organics.

“Consumers will devour products made with these chips,” Fichtner says. “And these shelf-stable chips bring every advantage conceivable to manufacturers: they function well at room temperature so they can be mixed into trail mix or no-bake bars, they remain soft and hold their flavor in ice cream, and they bake beautifully.”

Beyond their utility in baked, room-temperature and cold/frozen products, the organic peanut butter chips are: high in fiber, protein and potassium; naturally cholesterol and gluten free; as well as certified organic, kosher and non-GMO. Produced without soy or dairy, the vegan chips have no added flavors or preservatives. And with only a quartet of ingredients, the chips are a clean-label alternative to other peanut butter add-ins, says Fichtner.

The chips are available made with either coconut or cane sugar. The coconut sugar version is FODMAP Friendly certified and has an extra molasses/fruit-y taste profile and a lower glycemic index, which is especially important to Paleo and other folks who would like to eat sweet but can’t — or won’t — eat cane sugar or most other available sweeteners.

“Global Organics is proud to launch this ‘made in the U.S.A.’ product, and because the manufacturing facility uses renewable energy and is 100 percent carbon neutral, there’s even more to feel good about,” Fichtner says. “We are eager to see what our manufacturing partners are able to create with these versatile, delicious organic peanut butter chips.”

  • Fixed, 10-year price benefits growers and yields high-quality product for producers

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts  – Global Organics Ltd., a leading supplier of sustainable, certified organic and fair trade ingredients, has solved the twin problems of fluctuating prices and product adulteration with its newly launched Organic Wild Salmiana Agave Syrup.

Global Organics’ wild agave syrup offers the low glycemic index and density of sweetness found in other agaves, so it works beautifully as a sweetener, binder and browning agent. At the same time, it is an organic product obtained through a process that’s highly sustainable from start to finish.

“Wild Salmiana Agave is the original species historically used to produce agave syrup. It grows naturally and organically in central Mexico,” says Alex Puglia, business development manager at Global Organics. “Wild Agave is so well adapted to its environment that farmers don’t need herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers in the growing process. Both the leaves and piña are used in syrup production creating less biowaste.”

Global Organics sources its organic agave from a project in Mexico that over the last 20 years has helped marginalized, indigenous farmers commercialize their agave crop. Providing fair payments has improved daily life, preserved cultural traditions and removed the pressures to emigrate. Improvement in the farm economy has led to better schools, housing and healthcare. Working together, the community has established a nursery, allowing for a constant source for young agave plants. By staggering plantings, the farmers are able to harvest year round and thus stabilize incomes. With stable production, the project has been able to set a fixed price based on farmers’ cost of production, ensuring a fair wage while reducing the risk of product adulteration that often occurs in blue agave-based product manufacturing.

“Our wild salmiana syrup achieves success on so many levels,” Puglia continued. “First and foremost, we are able to obtain a high-quality product that is produced in an environmentally friendly, sustainable manner. Its year-round growing schedule means a predictable, stable income for farmers, which helps them earn a good living and support their local and regional economy. That all comes together in the type of high-quality product that food and beverage manufacturers expect from Global Organics.”
