about us

Arizona Algae Products, LLC is an innovative biotechnology company that makes use of proprietary production technologies and sustainable production methods to produce protein powders and omega-3 oils from algae for use in food, dietary supplements and wellness products that enhance human health and improve quality of life.
Our Mission
We are on a mission to provide the world with the highest quality, sustainably produced, animal-free, omega-3 oils and protein powders from photosynthetic microalgae.
Our Vision
Our vision is that our microalgae-based products can provide environment-friendly solutions for a healthier society.
Our Core Values
We believe in being guided by principles of environmental stewardship in our business decisions and in adopting sustainable production methods for everything we do.

Our Company

Our company is based in Holbrook, Navajo County, Arizona, and located at an elevation of 5,000 feet on top of the Colorado plateau.

We grow and harvest our algae in our fully equipped production plant consisting of a 12,000 square foot greenhouse plus seed and analytical laboratories. Extraction and downstream processing of the algal oils takes place in our processing facility. All growing operations take place under USDA-GAP ("Good Agricultural Practices") and all our downstream processing conforms to cGMP standards.

What makes us different.

We derive our EPA oils and protein powders from natural photosynthetic algae, a non-animal, non-GMO and sustainable alternative to fish and krill for omega-3s. Our omega-3 oils do not cause repeats (“fishy burps”) and can address the needs of certain population groups such as vegans, pregnant women concerned about heavy metals, and children with certain allergies. Unlike others, we grow our algae in a controlled environment to ensure our oils are of superior quality.

Non-Animal, Non-GMO

Our oils and powders come from microalgae and thus fit perfectly in vegetarian, plant-based diets. We only grow natural algae and do not make use of genetically modified organisms (GMO).

No Fermentation

We do not grow our algae using sugar and fermentation, but photosynthesis using abundant natural sunlight the way Nature intended it.

No Allergens

Since our algal protein powders and omega-3 oils come from a non-fish, non-animal source, they do not contain animal or fish proteins and therefore are safe for use by people with fish allergies and food sensitivities.

High in Phospholipids

Thanks to the abundant sunshine we use to grow our algae, a large portion (50%) of the EPA omega-3 in our algal oils and powders is bound to phospholipids and glycolipids. This has been shown to improve absorption ("bio-availability") in the human body, meaning that less is more.

Controlled Environment

Our algae are grown in a controlled environment inside proprietary photobioreactors, resulting in the highest possible and consistent product quality and year-round reliable production. We further use a pristine water source, free from agricultural run-off and pesticides, thus ensuring the purest possible product.

Grown Sustainably

We do not contribute to overfishing of the oceans and use only desert land that cannot be used for agriculture. The water we use is saline and not suitable for irrigation. The light and energy we use to grow our algae comes from abundant Arizona sunshine.

Our Products.

Our omega-3 powders and oils are obtained from natural Nannochloropsis sp. microalgae grown in our GMP-compliant facility in the high Arizona desert at 5,000 feet elevation. We cultivate our proprietary algae strains through strain development and careful selection. Production takes place in proprietary closed photo-bioreactors with pristine water, high-purity nutrients and abundant natural sunlight.

Applications.

Our omega-3 powders and oils can be used in a wide range of applications, ranging from nutraceuticals and dietary supplements to healthy food that is rich in plant-based omega 3 and EPA. The Omega-3 Ingredients Market

If the whole world population took the recommended daily dose of omega-3s, this would correspond to an annual demand of 1.3 million tons. Available supply is merely a fraction of this. There is an unmet demand for natural, non-animal omega-3 oils that is only expected to grow in view of recent findings on the health benefits associated with consumption of omega-3s. The worldwide market for omega-3 ingredients surpassed 110,000 metric tonnes in 2018, representing a market value of close to US$1.4 billion. By volume, the largest omega-3 market segments are[1]:
Common Refined Oils
36.6%
Concentrated oils
18.6%
Misc. pet food oils
